Sunrise shells, known in Hawaiian as pūpū pukaʻana o ka lā, are rare, vibrant scallop shells endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago. Highly prized since ancient times when they were reserved for Hawaiian royalty, finding a whole, pristine specimen on Kauai's beaches is an extraordinary and lucky event.
